What are the main benefits of deionization ?
The main advantage is faster freezing water.
The minerals removed from the water allow it to really freeze at 0 ° C (32 ° F). The compressor works less, so there is an energy saving.
From our experience, water in areas where there are forest industries has a lot of tannins. They prevent water from reaching its freezing point. In cases where organic material are highly present, Jet Ice recommends the addition of a carbon filter. The latter must be purchased and contains a cartridge that should be replaced annually.
- Deionized water is gives a harder ice. The peebles are more resistant.
- Curling stones wear out less quickly because of the reduced friction
To the above Jet Ice adds 2 benefits:
- A reduction in the friction coefficient
- A clearer and more translucent sheet of ice that truly shows logos, as well as game lines and circles.
How often should I replace the Carbon Block Filter ?
The lifetime of a Carbon Block Filter depends on several factors such as level of chlorine and organic materials as well as the color of the incoming water. We recommend that the Carbon Block Filter should be replaced yearly.
What kind of water heater can be used with distilled water?
According to our experts, the ice reaches its top notch level if water is slightly heated.
- If the heater is lined with porcelain, it can be placed downstream from the tanks. Warning! If a metal leaned heather is placed downstream, the de ionized water will immediately be attracted by the metal ions of the lining and the treatment effect will be lost.
- If the water heater is placed upstream the deionization tanks, water can’t be heated above 25 ° C (77 ° F).
- The water heater should have a minimum capacity of 100 gallons.

What is the purpose of a water analysis?
The analysis report will indicate the amount of gallons that the system can treat before having to regenerate the resins inside the tanks.
How much water is required for analysis ?
About a cup (250 ml) in a plastic bottle, well sealed for transport.
Where should I ship my water sample ?
ROBERT BOILEAU INC
ATT : CURLING DEPARTMENT
1425, PITFIELD BLVD
Are there fees for a water analysis?
Water sample analysis is free. The delay for results is about 2 weeks.
My water is cloudy at the output of the 2 tanks. Why?
Check that each tank was completely filled with water before connecting them together. This helps to eliminate bubbles in the tanks.
Water is added through the output “Out” line of each tank until the water exits through the input “In” pipe.
Then the tanks are connected as per instructions. It is recommended to rinse the tanks for about 10 minutes to complete the process.
Can demineralized water be stored ?
Yes. It is suggested to store the deionized water in a plastic tank or polyethylene of at least 1000 liters, or alternatively in two smaller storage tanks in serial connexion.
The DI output is 6 gallons of water on minute. It is therefore necessary to store water before flooding the surface
Our local expert often reduces the flow to 4 gallons on minute to increase the impact of water treatment.
What is the average water use curling rink, per season?
Our local expert, recommends to build the entire ice thickness with deionized water only.
Flud requires a minimum of 150 gallons per lane.
What if there are waterworks?
If you must turn off the water to the building because of waterworks make in the viscinity, be sure to close the tap leading to the deionization system.
Following the work, make sure you have purged the water pipes before opening the valve to the deionization system. This will prevent a premature contamination of the filters or the resins
Is there a downladable leaflet with some information on both demineralization approaches?

What is the useful life expectancy of a rebuilted Zamboni comparatively to a new one?
A new Zamboni lasts between 15 and 18 years, and comes with a two year warranty.
A rebuilted Zamboni last about 8 to 10 years, and comes with a one year warranty.
Are parts expensive?
Parts prices for an electric 552 model is similar to those of the propane 525 model. After 6 years, an additional cost of battery replacement on the electric must also be considered.
What are the differences between TMA 100 and TMA 200?
TMA 200 is suitable for a rink size of between 3000 and 15000 ft. Sq.
The required traction power is from 35 to 45 HP, and must be equipped with a hydraulic outlet.
TMA 100 is suitable for a rink size of between 1000 and 3000 ft. Sq.
The required traction power is from 20 to 25 HP, and must be equipped with a hydraulic outlet.
Should a TMA be stored in a warm place?
All TMAs can be stored outside or in an unheated place during Winter. However, it is important to empty the water tank and leave the water valve open. This way, it will not crack due to freezing.
Is hot water required to operate a TMA?
Hot water is not a requirement for natural outdoor rinks on which the TMA are generally used.
